As I came back home with my parents from watching Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, one particular quote by IMF team leaderEthan Hunt (actor Tom Cruise) in the ending scene had really been cemented into my memory, because it just fit so well with life in general. Although I do not remember how it went word for word (and I can’t find it on Google), he basically told his three other other team mates, which was what was left of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF), that even though every plan they had backfired on them, and every gadget they had eventually failed to help contribute to succeed in catching a Russian mad man code-named “Cobalt” before doomsday rained upon all human civilization, the team was the only thing that didn’t fall apart in the process.
Now, of course you gotta give props to Tom Cruise and his insane stunts and acting skills, and the vast array of gadget at the team’s disposal. I mean, that’s the thing about Hollywood right? Their goal is try to entertain the audience any way they can.
But getting back on topic here, life loves to throw challenges at human civilization. You have to work with what’s available to you. If nothing seems to work, well, it’s not because it doesn’t work. It’s because you’re not thinking hard and creatively enough. You just have to train yourself to improvise, because not everything in life is planned. Of course, not everyone likes to face that fact. But you know what? I’ve always emphasized how much of a pain in the ass life is. We all admit that. But I’ve also said whining isn’t going to solve anything. The most it can do is make matters worse. Today, I came up with another life quote.
You can run from it, but you can’t hide from it. So stop complaining and face it.
This quote is still up for editing, but you guys get the point. When faced with a certain situation you hate to be in and you know will most likely be stuck with you for the rest of your life, for example, a hostage situation, you can run away from bad guys, but you can’t hide from them. They will find you somehow. Now, I know. A hostage situation, for some or most of you, may seem a bit extreme because, really, who has actually been held up hostage before? Let me tell you, in this crazy ass world, you never know what’s going to happen. But anyway, most people are obviously afraid of dying. So when they’re facing a gun to their heads or a knife to their throats, they automatically beg for mercy. Honestly, depending on the situation, that’s a good start, so long as you have something improvised in mind to help you keep if not you and your peers around you alive, then just yourself.
Improvisation is an important key to survival if you don’t have a specific plan in mind or a plan fails. Most people think that in this advanced world of technology, anything is possible. From hijacking cars simply with a few commands on a laptop to massive global communication, hell, people just think I can do anything just by sitting in front of my fancy gadgets at home. With technology, obviously, comes a power source. And if you don’t have a power source, or if you forgot to pack that extra set of batteries for your camera, what else do you have? Just think about that a little bit, and you have the answer. As I’ve said, life likes to throw challenges at civilization. When life gives you a mission, will you accept it?
