As if it wasn’t enough to terrorize the U.S. with the Boston Bombings, extremist Chechen rebels have already threatened to shut down the 2014 Sochi Olympics, which takes place in Russia if you don’t know your geography. According to Sky News via the Bleacher Report, Islamic extremist Doku Umarov had this to say in a video message online at Kavkaz Center, an Independent Chechen news agency:
They (Russia) plan to hold the Olympics on the bones of our ancestors, on the bones of many, many dead Muslims, buried on the territory of our land on the Black Sea.
We as mujahideen are obliged to not permit that, using any methods allowed us by the almighty Allah.
When I said in my special column that OBL’s influence has very easily spread to other Muslim extremists — okay, maybe just the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood, I was right. It’s obvious in Umarov’s statement that he, like other Muslim extremists, is following in the very footsteps of bin Laden. During the Gulf War of 1991, bin Laden was angered by the presence of the United States in the Holy Land, declared jihad on us, and commited all heinous acts of terrorism that he and al-Qaeda was capable of. Here, Umarov implements that very message of anger and personal offense on Russia and Vladmir Putin.
As far as my opinion goes, this whole Muslim extremism — and all of you sane people would agree — is (excuse the language) bull$h!t. They say they want to “protect” their ancestors and whatnot by essentially exacting violence against those who go against them. Of course, that is their ideology. But still, their message is complete crap.
According to Sky News (via Bleacher Report), the Chechyan militant, Umarov, is one of the most wanted terrorists in the world. He’s wanted for a suicide attack in Moscow in 2011, which killed 37 people. He also claimed responsibility of a 2010 attack on the Moscow subway system, which left 40 people dead. His motive for the threat and such acts of violence is to break away from Russia so that the North Caucus can become an independent Islamic state.
As expected, Russian President Vladmir Putin has already heightened security for the upcoming Olympic Games. Neighboring country Georgia has also pledged to help ensure the safety of the Olympics. For those of you participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics, stay safe my friends.
